“He is the painter of the highest peaks and, such as skiing, he slips into the world of colors“
Pierre Poulin was born in 1958 in Canada and began an athletic career in freestyle skiing, where he was able to win in six world championships. In 1992 – inspired by his mother – he started to paint. Since that he had numerous exhibitions. His work is based on a strong influence by strength, light and symbols.
Pierre Poulin, born in Canada in 1958, is a former world-class freestyle skier and a celebrated visual artist. He began his athletic career at 16 and won six Freestyle Skiing World Cups between 1979 and 1984, earning his place among Canada’s skiing legends. Nicknamed the “Painter of Snow,” Poulin later translated the same energy, freedom, and daring of freestyle skiing into his art.
In 1992, a gift from his mother sparked his journey into painting. Driven by intuition and intensity, he developed a powerful visual language focused on light, symbolism, and raw expression. His work—often described as art brut—is singular, unclassifiable, and deeply physical, mirroring his athletic past.
Poulin has exhibited widely in Canada and the United States since 1996 and joined the prestigious Cirque du Soleil art collection in 2006. A permanent artist at Zen Gallery in Lac-Beauport since 2015, his life and work have been featured in multiple television documentaries. His paintings are held in international collections, and he has been listed on ArtPrice since 2016.
