Icon Zar

“Entering my universe is like stepping onto a surreal Yellow Brick Road

Icon Zar lives in Mallorca. Her art serves as cultural commentary as well as a collectible narrative. Icon Zar creates works that are deliberately polarizing, emotionally charged, and impossible to overlook.

As a millennial artist from the Mediterranean region with a distinct conceptual style, I create works that capture the spirit of our times through contemporary materials—through objects, symbols, and cultural traces that define how we live, consume, and believe.

My practice is a living time capsule of sorts: each series of works captures the psychology, contradictions, and longings of contemporary society while simultaneously opening a new, eagerly anticipated artistic chapter—designed to create its own “15 minutes of fame.”

My art serves both as a cultural commentary and as a collectible narrative. It is my parliament—an autonomous space where I set the rules, question social dynamics, and transform current events into visually powerful, thought-provoking works that resonate in the global contemporary art market.

Entering my universe is like stepping onto a surreal “Yellow Brick Road”—where identities shift, layers of meaning overlap, and reality is staged. I explore mirror psychology, double standards, beauty, and distortion, creating works that are deliberately polarizing, emotionally charged, and impossible to overlook.

I once dreamed of becoming a film director and a fashion designer. Today, I combine both in my art: Each year unfolds like a new film premiere or a couture collection—conceptual, time-bound, and created to be experienced, collected, and remembered.

This is not a static production; it is a constantly evolving artistic brand built on reinvention, cultural relevance, and scarcity—an ecosystem in which each series marks a new chapter in the archive of our time.

A graduate of Sint Lucas, van Hoorn lives and works in Den Bosch, where he operates a studio open to visitors. He is deeply involved in every stage of his creative process, from concept to finishing, resulting in a limited production. Each sculpture can take up to a year to complete, as he personally assembles, grinds, and polishes the pieces to transform raw metal into refined, luminous artworks.
